BECOMING A VOLUNTEER IS EASY

Volunteers are an integral and special part of our hospice team. From patient care to office administration to community outreach and fundraising, volunteers provide support in many facets of our hospice. If you are looking for something specific in your volunteer experience, we will do our best to accommodate your needs and goals so that you can get the most out of volunteering at Tranquil Oaks.

What Training is Provided?

At Tranquil Oaks, we are here to help you take your first steps as a Hospice Volunteer. We support all our volunteers with an orientation and educational program that acquaints you with hospice care and helps you know what to do as a volunteer. In our core training series, you’ll learn about:

  • How the hospice care team works, and your role in it
  • Helpful tips for being a successful volunteer
  • The psychological, social and spiritual needs of hospice patients
  • How to provide grief and bereavement support
  • Communication skills and managing stress
  • Patient privacy and other regulations

You will be given the option for additional training if you elect to specialize. Our shorter specialty seminars focus on the following volunteer services:

  • Bereavement programs
  • Spiritual support programs
  • Hands-on care
  • Special telephone callers

At the end of this training, you will be ready to make a meaningful difference in other people's lives. We want to ensure that all of our volunteers feel comfortable and understand their roles and responsibilities so that they may provide compassionate service to our patients and families in need.
